6 unexpected changes that happen when you get fit

The fitness journey is a constant battle between your excuses and your motivation.

The fitness journey is a constant battle between your excuses and your motivation.

One of the best ways to hack your motivation is to become so inspired by your “why” that minor obstacles mean nothing to you.

Finding this reason requires you to visualise where you want to be and how it differs to where you are now.

It also helps to have a complete understanding of how your fitness goal can have a positive impact in other aspects of your life.

To help you find your “why” we have made a list of:

6 Unexpected Changes That Happen When You Get Fit

Increased Self Confidence.

Accomplishing any significant goal is a journey that is littered with obstacles, fears and doubts.

When you consistently choose to delay short term satisfactions (that donut you’re craving) for the promise of long term rewards (the lifestyle of your dreams) you build a belief in your own word.

As you solidify this integrity, your belief in yourself drastically increases.

You have already proven to yourself that you can set a fitness goal and achieve it – there is no reason why any other goal is different.

Happiness.

A lack of exercise is positively correlated with anxiety and depression. Often the routine of physical exercise and healthy habits is the boost you need out of a negative mindset or an unproductive rut.

When you exercise, a chemical is released in your brain called “Endorphins”. Endorphins work by interacting with receptors in your brain and reduce your perception of pain but also are responsible for a deeply positive feeling in the body, similar to the effect of “Morphine”.

Working towards something of value (such as health and fitness), gives you a purpose in your life. With purpose comes happiness.

Increased Productivity.

When your body is strong and fed with nutritious food – you develop a more sustained energy release throughout the day.

Exercise increases blood flow to all areas of the body, including the brain. This process has been shown to reduce age related decline in neurogenesis (brain cell production).

Save Money.

One of the most important aspects of your fitness journey is your nutrition. Eating whole foods in which you know exactly what is going into your body the key to success. When you prepare meals at home instead of eating out and getting take away (UberEats) all the time, you save money in the long term!

When you exercise regularly and eat healthy foods you not only look and feel better but your immune system improves drastically. This means less medical and hospital bills in the future and less sick days at work from the common cold!

Become a Master Chef.

Chicken, broccoli and sweet potato don’t have to be the only meals you eat. After a few weeks eating ‘plain’ healthy foods and when you start becoming tired of force feeding yourself, you start to become creative in the kitchen.

You begin to learn new ‘hipster’ words like acai bowls, spirulina, hemp and suddenly become acutely aware of how foods can either feed you or destroy you slowly.

“The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” – Ann Wigmore

Better Sleep.

Studies have shown that those who exercise regularly fall asleep faster, have a greater quality of sleep and feel less tired throughout the day.

Try to avoid exercise within 1.5-2 hours of your bed-time. During exercise the sympathetic nervous system is activated which keeps your heart rate up and your brain alert which is, of course, not good when trying to fall asleep!

Jack is wonderful! He is a knowledgeable trainer who pushes us to our own limits, not some textbook idea of what we should be able to do. He is also just a great person to get to know. We highly recommend him to anyone wanting to improve their fitness and strength.

We are in Melbourne Bayside, and we’ve been training with Mia for the past three months and honestly couldn’t be happier. From day one, she has been incredibly punctual and professional. What really sets Mia apart is how personal and supportive she is — she knows exactly how to encourage you to push a little harder while still feeling supported.

Emily Smith is my personal trainer who has worked with me for the past few months. I have never had a PT before and I must say Emily was absolutely amazing and extremely professional. Emily actually gave me my life back as I have been troubled with poor health for a few years.

I’ve struggled to get into PT. Been a member of gyms for ages, but hated going. Honestly the PT I have, Steven Stocker (Steve) is the only one who’s had any success with me. I’m a very anxious person, so having someone calm yet motivating was the only reason I kept rocking up.
