There’s this Urban Legend, that if you eat carbohydrates, then you’ll gain 100 kilos. That may have been a SLIGHT exaggeration, but you know what I’m talking about! Carbohydrates have been banished from plates across the world. BUT, as long as you eat the GOOD carbs (plant based i.e. fruit, vegetables, grains and legumes, etc) in moderation. Carbs can actually HELP you lose weight!

Power Up – Carbs give you energy! They’re a great source of fuel. Carbs are the easiest macronutrient for the body to turn into energy. This can help with endurance training as carbs are a large and fast-burning energy source, that can keep up with your workout!

Concentration Station – Focus! Carbs tap into the part of your brain that controls the central nervous system and stimulates it! Leaving your body more alert and awake. Making it easier to pay attention and stay focused!

Healthy Helen – Reduced Health Risks! Good carbs contain plant fibre, which is proven to reduce the risk of colon, stomach and intestinal cancers. Eating carbs also improves your glucose tolerance which helps slow digestion and lowers the chance of blood sugar levels spiking!

Vitamins, Minerals and Fibre, Oh My! Good carbs have one thing in common, they contain plant fibre! Carbs are also the only macro (Carbs, Fat and Protein) that contains dietary fibre. Which is great for a healthy digestive system! It also helps regulate blood levels whilst reducing cholesterol levels.

Fat: Get Lost – Carbs improve fat loss! Carbs stabilise blood sugar levels in your body. This lessens your chance of craving those naughty treats! And carbs tell your brain you’re full. So naturally, you’ll eat less and are less likely to snack – hooray!
